There's a fantastic bar in WeHo whose namesake is a reminder of two favorite people in my life - T. Felix and Felix M. Both saints in their own right. They serve food here (I couldn't resist the cheese and olive board), but it's their custom drinks made with fresh fruit that makes this little spot a go-to. The swanky, dark atmosphere is just a bonus.
Went to a fantastic little restaurant in Colorado Springs called Shuga's. The place could fit right into Los Feliz as a local hot spot for hipsters. My new friend K works there and recommended a bunch of his favorites. We started with the Auntie Pasta - mozzarella, sage Derby, mixed olives, roasted red peppers, proscuitto, bread and pita.
I ordered one of their fancy martinis - the vivace chocolate. It was dessert in a martini glass.
For dinner, I got the one dish K has never ordered, the Phellini - basil pesto, tomato, and goat cheese on grilled rosemary bread.
We had dessert, too, but I didn't take photos of them - the chocolate double diablo cake and the almondbutter cake. Both delicious and highly recommended. Go to this place if you're ever in Colorado Springs.
I love Target. I want to know who their wine shopper is because they have interesting taste. I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to pick wine based on the name.
For my birthday last week I gathered the ladies for my first official tea time. K mentioned that we should try Jin Patisserie because their afternoon tea is deeeeeeeeelicious.
We each ordered the Afternoon Tea set which featured a sample of Jin Patisserie's cakes, egg salad tea sandwich, slice of butter cake, a mini quiche, orange scones and your choice of tea. I chose a green tea named Saigon because I'm Vietnamese and the description said it would whisk me away to the city.
The mini desserts were a work of art. I made sure to take several photos before digging in. My favorite was the dark chocolate raspberry cake. Least favorite was the green tea one. I like green tea, but I never liked the dessert concotions they make with it - not even green tea ice cream. The egg salad reminded me how much I liked egg salad (it's a childhood favorite), but I hardly ever eat it. If you think about it, there's a lot of egg in egg salad (egg and mayo, which is made of egg).
The scones were alright, but the it was the mini quiche that was the bummer of the set. I wouldn't even call it a quiche because is wasn't an egg custard pie with spinach and mushrooms. It was almost like a hollow pastry shell stuffed with spinach and mushrooms. No egg custard binding it together. I think the quiche suffered from a case of too much ingredients.
Overall, I had a great birthday. Enjoy the photos!
